If
you haven't come across Ontological Coaching before, just the very
title can be a bit intimidating. But don't be put off. It is the
most powerful and effective coaching method available today. It
helps you 'see' things that were previously hidden to you, thereby
enabling you to the face facts that are stopping you letting go
of the past, exploring the possibilities available to you in the
future and embracing the uncertainties that are stopping you taking
taking a few risks today.
Let's
face it, most of the time we don't think about things. What we do
is what we know. Life becomes transparent, it just happens. It is
our 'way of being' - a dynamic interaction between language, emotions
an physiology. If you want to live a more conscious life, where
you generate new possibilities for action and achieve outstanding
results - call me now.

"Steve was great. He really listened to my concerns and explored
the language, moods and physiological states that were contributing
to various 'breakdowns' in my life and what was stopping me from dealing
with them. I knew things weren't
working because I just couldn't breakthrough into new ways of doing
things. Steve introduced me to a 'new way of seeing' that enabled
me to observe how and why I made the distinctions and choices I did.
I am now an empowered listener and know what I must feel, say and
do to get what I want from my life and my work."
Winston
Moore. Managing Director. Associados Ltd.
To
be aware of how we learn, develop and interpret experiences allows
us to see and understand ourselves as observers and creators of
our own reality. In simple terms, if we speak, feel and act as we
always have, we will not change. The 'ego' likes consistency and
transparency, but life imposes change. It makes us stop and reflect.
We do this through language. It determines the distinctions we make,
the moods we create and the behaviour we adopt. It shapes our very
'way of being'.
Many
of my clients struggle to create change because they cannot see
the possibility of it happening, are afraid to even challenge their
interpretations of what they see or to accept that paradox and uncertainty
are normal states of existence and must be accepted - even appreciated.
There can be no change when clients deny facts, ignore obvious alternatives
or fear increasing uncertainty. They either think they have nothing
to learn or that their position/authority will secure the compliance
of others. When coached to observe their own 'way of being' clients
invariably discover the truth of what it means to change linguistically,
emotionally and physicially to make real change happen. It's about
identifying new ways of observing, listening, conversing and feeling.
I help my clients to make these distinctions and improve their performance
as re-energised human beings.
Success
in today's complex world requires an appreciation of diversity and
paradox. Change requires managers who are leaders of change, capable
of fostering both unity and constructive conflict at the same time
They must learn how to use authority and influence together to create
rules that can be broken as the situation demands. There is clearly
no right or wrong way to do what works, or to fix what isn't working.
It's my role to be contentious and secure my client's best ideas
and actions. My
Dynamic Change Model influences
the way I work in partnership with my clients to make the small
changes that seem to deliver big differences for them in what feels
like a very short time.

Private
Practice
I work with professional people who want to be more effective communicators
and leaders of change. They may be facing the first 100 days in a new
role, dealing with a mid-life crisis or struggling to cope with stress.
They may be preparing for retirement, setting up their own business or
just seeking a new life purpose. I offer a no nonsense, solution-focused
approach to using empowering language, emotions and actions.
Corporate
Work
The main impact of my corporate work has been to increase leader and manager
effectiveness. This has resulted in less conflict between team leaders
and better communication between departments in achieving corporate objectives.
I use Gregorc's Mind Styles Analysis, 360° and MBTI Assessments.
The emphasis
is on helping a team, organisation or community leader see beyond their
current position and engage in dynamic and strategic change. At the core
of this approach is an understanding of how change is achieved through
the way we use language, mood and body states to secure promises and mediate
personal and professional conflicts. Both executive and service teams
report significantly more effective working after just few short meetings
practicing 'ways of seeing'. Personal productivity and team performance
are also measurably improved. As a result, a team's ability to build and
maintain trusting relationships and improve performance is greatly enhanced.
I
also train managers and team leaders how to become more powerful observers
of themselves and others. This enhances their leadership and communication
skills, motivation levels and emotional/social intelligence. I coach and
train managers to establish and maintain rapport, enhance their active
listening skills, adopt a creative and purposeful questioning style, including
how to give open and honest feedback, make powerful promises, and use
metaphor to access people's humour, inner wisdom and intuition.
Qualifications
and Experience
I have over two decades of experience working with senior
managers and professionals - people who lead change in public services
through business transformation. My
life's work has been in personal, organisational and community development.
I have worked as a teacher, overseas volunteer, community worker, leisure
services manager, management trainer, projects director, organisation
development consultant and corporate change coach for the largest local
authority in Western Europe.
I have
a Masters Degree in Education and a Diploma in Management Studies. I am
a Personal and Professional Life Coach (NCFE) with over
750 hours of coaching experience and a certificate
in Clean Language and Symbolic Modeling. I am a certified NLP Practitioner
(INLPTA), a trained EFQM Assessor, qualified teacher and management trainer,
and an experienced facilitator, learning mentor and organisation development
consultant.
